The Bedford Playhouse hosted its Platinum Party Saturday night which included some big time celebrities.
More than 400 people were at the sold-out gala to see legendary music mogul Clive Davis be honored for his contributions to the Bedford Playhouse and the arts.
“It’s very special. The whole concept is special, dating back to the founding of the theater and to see the enthusiasm, the turnout -- very exciting,” Davis enthused.
Davis was responsible for catapulting music artists to success. Such artists included Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Billy Joel and Bruce Springstein.
He was honored at the event for his contributions to saving the theater and helped it become the Bedford Playhouse.
“I asked Tom Farns, Sarah Long, 'Could you can promise a theater that willn embrace music and special events, as well as intelligent films?” Davis said.
Sarah Long, who is the Board Chair Emeritus, was also honored for making the Playhouse into the cultural center beyond just films.
“I felt that it needed more and to have conversation about art and culture, and to come together over a cocktail or in a café... and bringing other arts to it, like authors and fine art,” Long said.
Platinum Party Playhouse co-chair Stephanie Small said the Bedford Playhouse has become an integral part of the community.
“There’s a tremendous amount of art in this community. I feel like the Bedford Playhouse is just part of the cultural hub here, whether it’s the Katonah Museum of Art, whether it’s the Caramoor Center of the Arts,” Small said.
The historic Bedford Playhouse has become a huge cultural center for the arts for the community since 1945.
