President Joe Biden is placing blame on the unvaccinated for extending the pandemic and has ordered sweeping new federal vaccine requirements.
The Biden administration is taking aggressive actions to try and battle COVID-19 by focusing on the unvaccinated.
"My message to unvaccinated Americans is this— what more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see?" Biden said.
The president has issued several new vaccination mandates that will soon go into effect.
Part of the plan requires all federal employees and contractors to be fully vaccinated.
In addition, the Labor Department will now require all private businesses with 100 or more employees to mandate vaccines or weekly testing for their workers or face thousands of dollars' worth of fines.
All health care workers will now have to get vaccinated without a test-out option or face losing Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
Dr. Bervin Brual says he believes all health care workers should be vaccinated.
"It's hard, I know it's your option if you want it or not but again— health care workers, this is our job, this is what we're sworn to do, to protect people and help people get better,” he says.
The president also announced increased fines ranging from $500 to $3,000 for those who don't comply with the federal mask mandate implemented on all forms of public transportation.
Mike Oates, CEO of Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, says this is big news for businesses.
"Customers and employees want to be in a safe environment, so if your environment is not safe, it's going to impact your business negatively,” he says.
The president also announced that the Transportation Safety Administration will double the fines on airline passengers who refuse to wear masks.
Critics have called the mandates big government overreach and an infringement on individual rights.
