A bill named after a slain Dutchess County woman is one step closer to becoming a law.
Melanie's Law, named after Melanie Chianese, passed in the Senate Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was killed in 2019 by her mother's ex-boyfriend who is now serving a life sentence for her murder.
Chianese's mom had a restraining order, but Melanie allegedly didn't.
