Police are investigating an overnight car accident in Blooming Grove that killed one person and injured two others.

According to authorities, the crash happened at around 1:45 a.m. on ST-208 when a speeding 2004 Volkswagen Passat drifted off the northbound lane and slammed into several trees, a utility pole and then a concrete pillar.

Police say 22-year-old Brian Strommer, of Washingtonville, was ejected from his passenger seat and pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 22-year-old John Blain, of Blooming Grove, suffered a severe leg injury.

The driver, 22-year-old Dylan Knapp, of Walden, was hospitalized with a head injury and later charged with DWI, vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault.
