Rising fuel prices are causing some Greenwood Lake boat owners to anchor their vessels and sometimes sell.

"For sale" signs are seen around the area on many boats. Owners say the cost of gasoline, slip rentals and maintenance make the pastime too expensive.

"People are getting rid of bigger boats and going to smaller boats. Or not even using their boats at all now," says Rick Loehwing, who works at Willow Point Marina. He just bought a boat from a man who could no longer afford the hundreds of dollars in fuel to fill up.

Jay Hardy, who also works at Willow Point Marina, recently got a boat for free. "They couldn't sell it. They just said, 'I don't use it anymore. Take it off my hands.' So I got the boat for free," Hardy says.
