Family and friends of Army Staff Sergeant Courtney Hollinsworth are preparing to say their final goodbyes as his body is flown home to Yonkers Monday.
The 26-year-old soldier was killed last weekend in Iraq when a homemade bomb exploded beneath his vehicle. Hollinsworth served in Afghanistan and then deployed to Iraq in February. His family says it was important to him that he be buried in Yonkers.
Hollinsworth, who was recently married, joined the Army right after graduating from Saunders High School in Yonkers. A wake will be held Tuesday, and he will be buried with full military honors Wednesday.
