A boil water alert will remain in effect through the weekend in Ossining after a water main broke Thursday night.
The water main broke at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 134, near Route 9A. The break damaged major sections of the street between Croton Dam Road and Hawkes Avenue.
The water main has since been fixed, but around 5,000 people have to boil their water to avoid potential contamination from ground water infiltration into water mains. Health officials say the advisory will remain at least through Sunday, or until the water is determined safe to use.
Route 134 remains closed from Hawkes Avenue to Route 9A throughout the weekend so the road can be fixed.
