A brand new five-star hotel has opened in downtown White Plains.
As Westchester County recovers from the pandemic and more people get vaccinated, The Opus aims to offer more options to eat out, get a drink or take a staycation.
"We're definitely finding that families are ready to get out of their house," said The Opus general manager Elizabeth Andrews.
"It's been about a year and a half of quiet," said Melissa Brown, who came down from Albany with her 11-year-old daughter, Katie, after deciding that the two needed a girls' getaway.
What was supposed to be a two-day trip extended into a long weekend for both.
"Came down to do a little shopping, a little bit of relaxing, a little bit of swimming in the pool. Just spending some quality time together," she said.
The Opus replaced the Ritz Carlton and the brand-new hotel is part of the Marriott's Autograph collection.
The Opus is not just for travelers to stay the night. There's an indoor heated pool on the roof, a fine dining restaurant on the 42nd floor, and a lobby lounge for breakfast, dinner and drinks as local residents return to work in person.
"Thankfully, as more people become vaccinated, we're able to host events again," Andrews says, as the hotel is already getting demand for weddings and banquets people have put off for a year.
And on top of welcoming out-of-town travelers back, they're also looking forward to hosting local residents.
"The Opus lobby lounge is a great place to come after work, for a cocktail or some light bites," Andrews said.
Brown said the hotel impressed her and praised its featured amenities.
"When looking at a place to actually spend time in the hotel, it's nice to have a place that's a little posh, a little pretty, and has a pool," Brown said.
