A Bronx church is dedicating its Sunday service to breaking boundaries and educating parishioners about diversity with a unique, community-based style of worship.
The New Day Church, which has no official building, held its Sunday service in the cafeteria of the Bronx High School of Science, where members sat in groups at tables and discussed current events and other issues following the pastor?s sermon.
Instead of a traditional Christian communion, the New Day Church conducts a ceremony where members join hands and pray together.
According to Pastor David Cunningham, the church is dedicated to breaking boundaries of race, sexual orientation and ethnicity. He hopes to attract a diverse group of parishioners with group-based services.
By encouraging discussion during the services, members say they leave each Sunday with new friends and a sense of community.
