Bronx lawmakers call for solidarity for jail-bound TWU leader
? Bronx and city lawmakers met at City Hall Sunday to support soon-to-be-incarcerated Transport Workers Union (TWU) leader Roger Toussaint.
Lawmakers and TWU Local 100 members plan to march with Toussaint to jail Monday. They also plan to hold vigils outside his cell. Bronx officials want to propose new legislation that would change New York?s Taylor Law, which makes it illegal for public employees to strike.
A judge sentenced Toussaint to 10 days in jail and fined the union $2.5 million earlier this month for the strike that crippled the city?s transit system during Christmas.
