Officials are urging Bronx seniors to stay cool as the mercury rises to avoid medical problems.
The New York City Department for the Aging says seniors need to avoid the sun, caffeine and overexerting themselves. Instead, seniors should drink plenty of liquids, use sunscreen, wear loose clothing and keep rooms well ventilated.
Signs of dehydration and overheating include nausea, dizziness and having pale, and clammy skin. Seniors showing any of the above symptoms should immediately contact 911. The city?s free 311 information line also offers information on how to beat the heat.
