The teen accused of throwing her baby from a fifth-floor window was ordered to remain in custody as she went before a judge Friday.
The 14-year-old is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. Police say the girl admitted to throwing her baby from the window. The baby girl was found lying on the grass near a building on Burke Avenue Tuesday with the umbilical cord still attached. According to the medical examiner, the baby died from blunt impact to her head and torso.
The teen's attorney asked that she be allowed to go home with her family, but the judge denied that request. A motion by the defense to keep the media out of the courtroom was also denied. The girl's cousin said family members are stunned by what happened and says all they can do is pray.
The teen is due back in court on Monday. She is being held at a juvenile facility.
