Some Bronx residents are fighting a plan to install underground transmission lines between Yonkers and Manhattan through Riverdale. The residents say parking in that part of the Bronx is bad enough already. They say a long-term construction project would put local shops out of business. But one Bronx resident in favor of the plan says he hopes it would help prevent future power outages. Con Edison says if everything goes as planned, construction would be complete by the summer of 2008.
A public hearing about the Con Ed proposal was held by the Public Service Commission Monday night. One alternative plan suggests building power lines over the neighboring Major Deegan Expressway.
