Bronx residents had the chance Monday night to voice their concerns over the proposed plans for a jail at the Oak Point freight yard in Hunts Point.Community activists like Lisa Ortega argue that the Bronx and other communities need positive enhancement, citing better schools, affordable housing and alternatives to incarceration as examples. Corrections Commissioner Martin Horn attended the meeting to listen to what the public thinks. He says whether anyone wants jails or not, they are a necessity and Oak Point is the place. He says it is zoned for heavy manufacturing and includes jails and prisons as a permitted use.Bronx residents are demanding five town meetings with Horn before an official process begins to discuss the plan further. Horn says he will meet with anyone anytime.
