The Dutchess County community is coming together to honor and remember the victims of crime.
Leaders gathered Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil. It was hosted by the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office.
"It's important we as a community come together to support those victims," says Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi.
It was an opportunity to recognize victims and survivors of crime, along with their loved ones.
"Whether it's a domestic violence case or a public case of community violence, it's really challenging for individuals in a community," says the CEO of Family Services, Leah Feldman.
The community of Poughkeepsie is especially feeling that right now.
There have been three stabbings there since last Saturday. Two of them were deadly.
"A very nice guy, I don't know why someone would do that to him," says Nicholas Brown, who was friends with one of the victims.
The three stabbings are not connected.
Regardless, people like Brown are hurting from the recent crime.
However, they tell News 12 that candlelit moments and a chance to come together as a community are a path toward healing.
"We will fight for justice, for healing and have hope that together, we will build a safer tomorrow," says Sinead McLoughlin, with the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
If you or someone you know is a victim of crime, there are many resources available, including through Family Services in Dutchess County.
