An elderly woman lost control of her car and slammed into a Nanuet townhouse, causing a potentially explosive situation Friday.

Workers from Orange and Rockland Utilities rushed to Amber Fields Townhomes on Meadow Lane just before 3 p.m. after the crash severed a natural gas line. They quickly moved to shut off the utilities since the gas main was next to the underground electrical infrastructure. Crews evacuated 12 units as a precaution.

No one was hurt in the accident. Officials are still trying to determine what caused the woman to lose control of her car.
