A Blauvelt family says they've been hit by a case of déjà vu after a car smashed into their home for the second time.
Orangetown police say at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday a Cadillac sedan driven by 52-year-old Joseph Neilson, of Blauvelt, rammed into the house at Blauvelt Road and Parkway Drive. Police say Neilson was the only person in the car. He was taken to Nyack Hospital, where he was treated and later released.
David Hogdahl, who lives in the home with his family, says a similar incident happened in 1995.
"I was just voted in as a volunteer fireman in Blauvelt, so my first call was to my own house," he says. "The car struck the house in the same spot and went directly through."
Hogdahl says the Cadillac wasn't able to drive through the house Saturday because he made improvements following the 1995 incident, such as reinforcing the foundation of the home with 12-inch double-steel concrete.
The family says it feels like their home has a bull's-eye on it and that it may be time to install a guardrail.
