The girls basketball team from Cardinal Spellman lost its first game back on home court after winning their Catholic League division title last season.
The Lady Cardinals were down six points in the final minute, but managed to chip away at St. Francis' lead and come within a basket. St. Francis hung on to win the game 36-34.
"We're very young this year," said head coach Jane Morris. Morris played three freshmen for a good part of the game.
The coach believes nervousness may have contributed to the loss.
"This is our first home game," said Morris. "There's always a little case of nerves going on."
