The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 1.5 million Americans missed work because of sickness in December.
The agency says more than a million people have called out sick each month, for the past three years.
It says long-COVID is a big factor, with about 7% of Americans suffering from it, which can affect productivity and the ability to work.
