New York's new cell phone ban in schools is raising concerns among parents in Yonkers following a deadly school shooting in Minnesota.
During a meeting Wednesday night, one parent asked school leaders what would happen if there was an emergency.
Superintendent Aníbal Soler Jr. responded that the focus should be on safety drills and getting students to a secure place.
"We don't want a phone ringing with an active shooter in the hallway," he said. "We want the kids getting to a safe place, you're supposed to be quiet and follow the drill procedures."
School leaders also said the district would send a mass notification in the event of a lockdown or dangerous situation.
