With the Ryder Cup around the corner, one Manhattan golf range is reminding players and fans that it's been a hub for the sport long before high-tech simulators and Topgolf took off.
Chelsea Piers Golf Club, located smack in the heart of Manhattan along the Hudson River, has been a go-to spot for golfers of all levels for decades. The three-tiered range offers heated stalls, skyline views and technology that tracks each shot in real time.
"So, every time you hit a ball it'll show you on here, how far it goes, it'll show you all kind of data analysis here. Ball speed, launch angle, all of those things."
Whether you're there to fine-tune your swing or enjoy a casual date night, the club allows visitors to play games or try virtual courses.
"You play long drive, you do closest to the pin. You can pay golf courses on here as well, so we have Bethpage Black with the Ryder Cup coming up, that's very popular," said Simmons.
Chelsea Piers Golf Club has also become a backdrop for the big screen.
"We filmed "Billions" here, "The Other Guys," mentioned Simmons, "While "Happy Gilmore 2 was filming - Adam Sandler and cast members would spend hours here practicing swings and such! It was pretty cool," Simmons said.
For Simmons, the club's success is about more than just the game.
"I like to see that because that means golf is becoming more popular, it's reaching different landscapes," he said.
