An expected City Council proposal could be very popular with the city's students; it would limit the amount of homework they could get.

Queens Councilman Peter Vallone wants to limit the amount of homework in public schools according to grade level. In his plan, second-graders would get up to 20 minutes of homework, eighth-graders would get up to 80 minutes, and so on. According to The New York Sun, Vallone said he thinks that homework should add to a good education, not be a substitute for one. The Gotham Gazette has reported that Vallone will also suggest a homework-free night to balance schoolwork with home life. He's expected to make his proposal Wednesday in the City Council.
