The city is planning to change the process for inspecting apartments for lead paint in Bronx and the city.
Under the Department of Homeless Services' plan, buildings with open violations will not be allowed into the city's assistance program, Housing Stability Plus. Also, landlords already in the program will have to fix any cracked or peeling paint. Repairs must then be verified by an inspector.
News 12 Bronx previously reported that many borough families had been placed in homes testing positive for lead paint. At that time, city officials said they conducted inspections only after residents complained.
