More than 2,000 seniors were out in Orchard Beach Wednesday trying to stay active in the Senior Stroll 2007.
Despite the rain, seniors from all five boroughs set off on the mile-long walk. Many participants said they got wet, but felt great completing the walk.
The Department for the Aging sponsored the stroll to encourage older New Yorkers to improve their endurance, flexibility and health. Members of more than 100 walking clubs throughout the city participated.
?Walking doesn?t cost a lot of money. You could do it with friends and it?s a very fun, enjoyable way of staying fit,? Department Commissioner Edwin Mendez-Santiago said.
According to health experts, seniors should walk 30 minutes a day to keep their minds sharp.
