Officials in the town of Clarkstown are looking to reboot the downtown areas with more attractive signage. Supervisor Alexander Gromack says the town wants local businesses to upgrade their signs. It was just last October when the town cracked down on signs, many of them political, which littered the public right of ways. In phase two of Operation Clean Sweep, the law would create guidelines for business signs where lighting, size and the sign material would be regulated. Gromack acknowledges there will be some costs to the proposed changes, but says there will be some money to help subsidize those costs. If the law passes, new businesses will be required to comply immediately, others will have the next 10 years to re-sign. The next town hearing on the proposed sign law will be on September 18.
