A group of homeless people who set up a tent community in Nanuet are facing the possibility of eviction.

The group set up homes in tents off Route 59, near a southbound exit of the New York State Thruway. They say they've tried getting jobs, but claim they all have medical conditions.

Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack met with state and county officials in an effort to get the individuals evicted. It?s a decision that he believes will help both residents and the people in question. Gromack says eviction will force the county to step in and help the group.

The land used for the tent community belongs to the state and county. If the state gets the go-ahead from a court to evict the homeless people, the state will have to foot the bill for the cleanup, costing it almost $50,000. If the court-ordered eviction gets approved, the process will take up to six months.
