Dozens of people attended an information session on Wednesday in Spring Valley about the dissolution of the village.
The gathering was to inform village residents about the steps needed to dissolve Spring Valley government and what would happen if those steps were successful.
A dissolved government would mean a loss of their police force and other services they have directly available.
Ultimately, the town of Ramapo would step in to provide services.
Citizens and community leaders voiced their concerns and said they are planning to form a "Save Spring Valley" group.
“Spring Valley is alive, Spring Valley is well, and Spring Valley is here to stay,” said Rev. Teresa Darden.
Local state lawmaker Ken Zebrowski explained that for the process for a dissolution to happen, there would first need to be enough signatures and village citizens would get a chance to vote.
As News 12 has reported, a petition has been circulating asking if people would want a village government dissolution. There's still no word on who started it and why.
