The mix of heat and humidity was looming over neighbors Thursday morning, many making their way to work. With temperatures expected to reach the triple digits, the city advises New Yorkers to create a heat plan.

With hundreds of thousands of Bronx residents using public transportation every day, the mix of heat with humidity, long wait times and large crowds could make for unbearable conditions.

The city says New Yorkers should stay hydrated, drinking water if they’re not thirsty. It’s also important to wear light and loose clothing. Limiting wait time will also be key to beating the heat and planning your trip strategically.

Just as important as things to do to stay safe, it is important to recognize when the body has had enough. The city says some of the symptoms of heat exhaustion include headaches, heavy sweating and muscle cramps.

New Yorkers feeling symptoms of heat exhaustion are encouraged to get somewhere cool immediately, including a cooling center or call 911.

The city has shared a full list of resources to beat the heat on their website.
