Congressional aides are claiming Mayor Bloomberg's congestion pricing plan is getting the thumbs up from Washington.The plan would mean millions of dollars from Washington to fight traffic. Nine of the nation's largest cities applied for the money, including Atlanta, Dallas and San Francisco. New York City would be one of five cities that received the aid, expected to be more than $300 million.Some of the money would be used to set up a high-tech system of E-ZPass readers and cameras to charge cars and trucks entering Manhattan below 86th Street during certain hours of the week. Cars would be charged $8 and trucks would be charged $21.The plan is pending the approval of a state commission appointed by Governor Spitzer (D-NY). The panel is expected to make its decision by January 31.
