After more than four decades on the run, convicted robber Noel Hernandez has been extradited to Westchester County to face his prison sentence.
Hernandez was charged with robbery by Yonkers police in January 1981 and convicted at trial. However, he fled before sentencing in 1982.
At the time, authorities believed Hernandez returned to his native Nicaragua.
Despite a bail jumping indictment filed by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, the case went cold.
In February, Westchester police learned Hernandez had reentered the U.S. in December 2022 and was living in the Miami area.
Hernandez was arrested in July and arraigned in Florida before being extradited to Westchester.
He was taken into custody by county police on Friday and is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail.
Hernandez's original sentence was 6 1/2 to 20 years in state prison.
