Cops: Drunken teen girl Tasered after crashing dance
A teenage girl, who police claim they were forced to Taser, faces charges for allegedly being combative while crashing a Suffern high school dance.
Police say a school adviser called 911 Friday after noticing the girl trying to get into the function and throwing up. Officers say the 17-year-old Wyckoff, N.J., girl refused to follow instructions when they arrived at the Suffern Village Community Center dance.
"She became very combative and attempted to kick two of my officers in the groin area," says Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn. According to Osborn, the girl darted into traffic on nearby Lafayette Avenue.
Police say they finally shocked the teen for a half-second with 50,000 volts of electricity to subdue her.
The teen was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where police say she bit a nurse's hand. The teen was treated for alcohol poisoning and released.
The girl, whose name has not been released due to her age, is charged with the village ordinance of breach of the peace. She was released to her parents Monday night.
