Cops stop teen crime spree in its tracks
Police nabbed four teenagers from Orange and Ulster counties they say stole cars, went on joyrides and damaged the vehicles.
According to police, the teens went to residential neighborhoods and targeted unlocked vehicles parked in driveways with the key still in the ignition. Police say the teens would go on joyrides and then see what damage they could inflict on the cars. The Crawford Police Department recovered the banged up vehicles.
Police managed to stop the teens, ages 12 to 15, in their tracks. Two of the suspects were taken into custody in Crawford Monday night. Earlier that day, another was questioned by police.
The fourth suspect, from Pine Bush, wasn't taken into custody until after he allegedly took police on a short chase on Route 17K in Wallkill Tuesday. Police say the teen lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wooded area. He was ejected from the car and is in critical but stable condition.
All four teens are facing criminal charges for their alleged roles in the crime spree. Due to their ages, the cases against the teens will ultimately be handled in family court.
