An inmate attempted to walk out of the Fishkill Correctional Facility in Dutchess County on Christmas Eve, the State Corrections Department says.

The man was stopped by staff who were made aware of his attempt to leave.

The department noted the inmate never left the secure perimeter of the facility and was never at risk of leaving.

The state department would not confirm an additional report that the facility was placed on lockdown.

The name of the inmate or what they are in prison for was not made available.

The department says the investigation is ongoing.
