The Village of Florida is in mourning after a young couple was killed in a car accident over the weekend.

According to Village of Florida police, Joseph Roman, 26, lost control of his vehicle and struck a pole on Highland Avenue at around 6:45 p.m. Officials say the crash killed Roman and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Brittany Smith.

Smith was a student at S.S. Seward Institute.
