Court documents related to Gilgo Beach suspect Rex Heuermann have revealed a history of financial issues for at least a decade.
Despite high profile clients like Nike, Target and Cipriani being listed on his company website, the Fifth Avenue architect has struggled to pay taxes.
Public records dating back more than a decade in Nassau County turned up 6 federal liens worth several hundred thousand dollars.

One lien issued by the IRS in 2010 stated that Heuermann allegedly failed to pay more than a $100,000 in taxes that year.
Another one was issued last November, though records show he paid back about half of what he owes.

According to online reports, Heuerman and his second wife also currently owe roughly $80,000 in back income taxes to New York state.

Retired state police investigator Joseph Becerra, who has worked on similar cases, says it does not surprise him that Heuerman was able to fly under the radar for so long.
“No one suspected him of anything unusual prior to this so it is a little disturbing to say the least,” he said.
