New COVID-19 numbers are showing that New York is heading in the wrong direction as Christmas approaches.
The latest numbers show New York's positivity rate is 5.78%, whereas it was 4.01% one month ago.
The rate for the Mid-Hudson region is now at 4.59%. A month ago the rate was 2.55% so it has nearly doubled.
Here is the latest 7-day average rate per county:
  • Rockland - 2.7%
  • Westchester - 3.9%
  • Dutchess - 5.6%
  • Putnam - 6.3%
  • Orange – 6.8%
Gov. Kathy Hochul says COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people are up 58% since Thanksgiving. That number was 43% just last week.
While hospitalizations are not where they were last year, admissions are up 70% since Thanksgiving.
The worst news is that the U.S. death toll from the virus has reached 800,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
