DEC: Bloomingburg taking ‘corrective action’ to fix major sewage leak into Shawangunk Kill

Officals say the Sullivan County village has made several repairs to its sewage treatment plant after the DEC found millions of gallons of raw and partially treated effluent leaking into the Shawangunk Kill.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says Bloomingburg is working to correct a major sewage leak impacting a local stream.

Officals say the Sullivan County village has made several repairs to its sewage treatment plant after the DEC found millions of gallons of raw and partially treated effluent leaking into the Shawangunk Kill.

News 12 first reported on the problem in March.

The DEC says Bloomingburg was issued four violations for numerous system failures going back to 2022 and that corrective action is ongoing.

News 12 has calls out to Bloomingburg officials for comment.
