The town of Deerpark is seeking assistance from the state to help it recover from an $800,000 budget shortfall.
Some of the town?s financial troubles stem from floods that devastated Deerpark in June 2006. Officials say the town was denied about $300,000 in reimbursements from FEMA because there were problems with paperwork.
In addition, Town Hall was closed down last year due to dangerous lead levels. Supervisor Gary Flieger says lower tax revenues also contributed to the debt.
The town requested a state loan along with an audit of Deerpark?s finances. Meanwhile, officials say the are cutting down on spending.
