The weekend rainy weather caused some Bronx homes on Gleason Avenue to flood. However, some residents say flooding is nothing new in the area.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) says flooding is a chronic problem on the street because of household grease. According to the DEP, when large amounts of water goes through the sewers the grease sometimes stops the water from being able to get through, which results in flooding.

The DEP says residents should never dump grease, cooking oil or poultry fat into kitchen sinks or toilets. DEP officials say when the rain stops they plan to investigate if a business is dumping grease into sewers.
