A realistic emergency drill was held today at the Indian Point nuclear power station.
At the County Emergency Operations Center in Hawthorne, officials practiced as if one of the reactors failed to shut down properly.
Officials manned phones, monitored news and held briefings to prepare if a real issue ever occurred.
The drill was as realistic as possible, the only sign that it was a drill was that there were no warning sirens activated.
The drill, which was planned months in advance, comes a week after two reactors were shut down when workers discovered non-radioactive water leaking from a coolant system.
FEMA, which was observing, will release a report on the drill on Friday.
