Maritime College and the University at Buffalo recently held their first joint clinic in the hopes of nabbing Bronx and city high school football talent.
The schools have both struggled with their relatively new status as Division I teams. Maritime coach Clayton Hendrick-Holmes and Buffalo coach Turner Gil said the clinic would help players develop. The coaches also said the benefits go both ways.
"We're trying to find local talent and be able to look at some guys early on before they start their senior season," Hendrick-Holmes said.
About 50 students, mostly from the city, but also from as far away as Maine, Massachusetts and Florida attended the clinic.
