Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard did not hold back on her Facebook page after a series of unconnected crimes happened in Mount Vernon Saturday night, including a shooting.
“We are tired of it,” she said. “We're not just going after the gun manufacturers but were going after the people who are doing gun crimes in our community."
A Mount Vernon officer says they responded to three major incidents:
- A man was knocked out and robbed on West Sidney Avenue.
- Two women not from Mount Vernon got into a fight at the Wave Bar & Lounge on Gramatan Avenue. One was arrested.
- A man was shot in the arm at a house party on Monroe Street.
"I want to let my police know I appreciate that you’re out here. I’ve been out here with you," she said.
Nicholas Mastrogiorgio, the president of the Mount Vernon PBA, sounded off to News 12 after the busy night, wanting city officials to approve steady shift hours for officers.
"Show us that you appreciate what we do – don’t just say it," he said.
News 12 reached out to the city for comment regarding the PBA request but did not hear back as of Sunday night.
