For months, doctors have been trying to find treatments that work against COVID-19.
Recently, doctors on Long Island decided to try therapeutic hypothermia on four extremely critical patients.
Therapeutic hypothermia is a treatment sometimes used in patients who suffer heart attacks.
It works by cooling down the body to decrease the metabolic rate which stops the body from using so much energy. The treatment had incredible results.
News 12's Elizabeth Hashagen was joined by Dr. Hugh Cassiere to talk about the treatment and answer viewers' questions.
Dr. Cassiere is the director of respiratory therapy at North Shore University Hospital.
