Dueling petitions are revving up in Ulster County over a potential drag racing strip in Plattekill.
The proposed drag strip would be located at 153 Freetown Road. Once opened, it would look to hold drag races Thursdays through Sundays from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m.
Fans of the idea are now drawing more support than those against it.
Supporters of the plan launched a change.org petition, which so far has garnered over 1,400 signatures - just short of its 1,500-name goal.
In the meantime, concerned local residents are pushing back and saying they want to protect their peaceful town. So far, their petition has just under half its goal of 500 signatures.
