Sales tax in Dutchess County is staying right where it's at despite disagreements between Republicans and Democrats in the county Legislature.
During its January board meeting, the Legislature voted to keep county sales tax at 3.75%, which it says is one of the lowest county sales tax rates in the state.
The legislature says it should generate $250 million for the county's programs and services, plus over 17% will be shared with cities, towns and villages.
All the Republicans on the legislature voted yes, but not one Democrat did.
Instead, the Democrats tried to reduce the rate in an effort to give people some relief from inflation.
Republicans say they understand that goal but don't think this was the right way to go about it.
