Utility crews are working hard to restore power to the thousands of people in Dutchess County who lost power during Tuesday's storm.
While much of the Hudson Valley had damage from the storm, it appears that Dutchess County may have been hit the hardest.
Dutchess County emergency officials estimate about 22,000 residents in total lost power, with several hundred 911 calls coming in to their center between 4 and 5:30 p.m.
The hardest hit areas were the towns of Hyde Park, Pleasant Valley, Union Vale, Poughkeepsie and Dover.
One man who spoke to News 12 says he drove an hour and a half to Bridgeport, Connecticut, to get a generator. "If we don’t have power, our basement floods because the water table is so high. You just have to deal with what life throws at you and eventually we'll get all this stuff cleaned up and move on," says Joe Garafolo, of Hyde Park.
Garafolo also says he ran into a couple from Lagrange there also getting a generator. With more storms expected, he says it was a smart move.
Central Hudson passed out thousands of pounds of dry ice and hundreds of cases of water to people in Poughkeepsie without power.
Central Hudson expects to have power back to most customers Wednesday evening, with the hardest hit areas in Dutchess County by 12 p.m. Thursday.
County officials suggest those looking to cool down should head to a municipal building or library to cool off and charge up any electronics.
