Police in East Fishkill say a garbage truck collided with a car Thursday morning.
Tire marks and damage were seen on Route 52 by Leetown Road where witnesses say the collision happened shortly after 8 a.m.
Officers with the East Fishkill Police Department had released few details as of Thursday night. They said the crash was very serious and caused the intersection to be shut down for hours.
Residents who live close by said the crash sounded like an explosion.
"We hear a big boom with a big puff of smoke. A couple of the guys in the deli walked outside, saw the accident, people in the neighborhood pulled over and helped out," said Michael Corrado, who owns a business near the crash site.
A woman who lives right across the street said three people were in the car that was involved in the crash.
Police had not confirmed the extent of injuries in either of the vehicles as of Thursday night.
News 12 reached out to the garbage disposal company that owns the truck involved and they said they did not have a comment as of Thursday night.
