East Fishkill’s Carol Lane Bridge cleared for use; construction of new bridge on hold

The Carol Lane Bridge in East Fishkill is hanging in there following Sunday’s massive flooding.
The one-lane wooden bridge was almost washed out during the storm and would have trapped 60+ families in their homes.
On Monday, town officials advised those residents to evacuate and restricted traffic on the bridge. The bridge is now open to all traffic – but construction of a bridge to replace it though has been set back.
Steve Bishko, a contractor, says an equipment bridge that was being used to build a replacement bridge was washed away.
"Now we just have to wait for the floodwaters to recede," he said.
Now, they're just trying to stabilize the current bridge. Neighbors says workers dumped rocks and packed them down to shore up a slope next to the road to make sure it didn't wash away.
Town officials have put out advisories on several damaged roads.

"People need access back and forth from their homes, and we took care of that very well yesterday. Everything was under control," he said.
