Efforts underway throughout NY to get additional polio vaccines into arms

Nearly 5,000 polio vaccines have been administered in Rockland County since late July - when the virus was confirmed in an unvaccinated person who ended up paralyzed.

Efforts are underway throughout New York to get more polio vaccines into arms. 
Nearly 5,000 polio vaccines have been administered in Rockland County since late July - when the virus was confirmed in an unvaccinated person who ended up paralyzed.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed an executive order Friday to get more shots into arms and make the vaccine more readily accessible by allowing EMS, midwives and pharmacists to administer them.
To date, the polio virus has been detected in wastewater samples in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, New York City and Nassau counties.
Back in Rockland, it has been a county, state and federal effort to keep an eye on the situation and get the under and unvaccinated protected.
Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Schnabel Ruppert emphasizes that children should be getting the vaccine doses when it's recommended to.
State data shows 60% of kids 2 years old and younger are vaccinated against polio in Rockland.
The Rockland County Health Department is holding vaccine clinics every Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. by appointment at the Health Department location in Pomona.
