An elderly Chestnut Ridge couple was rescued from their burning home Tuesday morning.
The blaze broke out at 9 Lillian Drive at around 9:15 a.m. One of the homeowners suffered a slight burn on her hand.
Firefighters say the couple did not know the house was on fire despite smoke alarms sounding. Fire officials say it took several cell phone calls and frantic knocking on the door to alert them to the situation.
Officials say the flames broke out in an upstairs bedroom and spread to the roof. The second floor of the home was entirely gutted.
Authorities are probing the cause of the fire.
